A young dad from Nottingham is celebrating after hitting a £1000 jackpot on a pub lottery machine.
Christopher Wood, who is in his mid 20s, scooped the top prize after purchasing a £1 lottery ticket from the TabBOXX machine at his local pub, The Five Ways in Sherwood, which is part of the Punch Taverns Group.
He is now planning to use the money to take his wife and little girl on a dream holiday.
The interactive pull tab lottery machines are being rolled out in pubs across the UK to help raise money for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation – the UK’s only charity dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer. 20% of the £1 ticket price goes directly to the charity and has so far raised more than £40,000 since the beginning of May.
Matt Boyle, Head of Fundraising for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer in the UK with 34,600 people dying every year, so it is vital we continue to raise money to help us in the fight to defeat this truly awful disease. Since the launch of the pub lottery only a few months ago we have already raised tens of thousands of pounds, which all goes directly to helping us fund research programmes, supporting patients with lung cancer and running awareness and prevention campaigns.”
Gamestec, the UK’s leading gaming machine operator in conjunction with TabBOXX LLC, has launched the new, instant-win lottery product.
The TabBOXX was co-pioneered in North America by Oasis Gaming and Jim McIntire the CEO of TabBOXX LLC.
Stefan Poldolanski (pictured) of Gamestec, who presented Christopher with his £1000 cheque said: “I’m really pleased for Christopher and glad he can now get away on a well deserved holiday. TabBOXX is a new product to the market, but we have been really pleased by how well received the product has been since it was launched at the beginning of May. It is very simple to play and pubgoers like having the opportunity to win £1000 and at the same time help a good cause. In May and June TabBOXX raised £27,000 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and thousands more pounds have been raised since then.”
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer, the biggest cancer killer in the world. The Foundation funds research into the early diagnosis of the disease, provides support to patients and their families, as well as helping people to quit smoking and providing anti-smoking education for children and young people.
